CELLULITE
Cellulite is not necessarily an overweight
problem. You don't have to be heavy to have cellulite even
thin people have cellulite. Though diet and lifestyle affect
cellulite formation, a large part of cellulite is comprised
of toxins and fat that build up in the body, and can affect
men and women of any size, weight and body structure.
The skin on the hips, thighs and buttocks are
the affected areas appearing lumpy, containing dips, ripples
and dimples. Sometimes refer to it as a dimpled "orange peel"
effect.
Primarily women are the victims of cellulite.
It begins to appear in girls around the age of 14 and increases
as they mature and the subcutaneous skin layer thins redistributing.
Postnatal women often form Cellulite and those who take birth
control pills because the waste system cannot get rid of the
enormous flow of oestrogen in the body. It can also develop
after a traumatic injury if the circulatory system has been
disturbed. A sedentary lifestyle leads to a hardening of the
connective tissue, causing a dimpling of the skin.
Men's network of fat cells occurs deep in the
skin hence the rarely develop cellulite. Female cells are
smooth in shape and nearly reach the surface of the skin,
which causes a dimpling effect. Men's cells reside deeper
in the skin and are shaped more sharply rarely poking through
to cause the dimples we associate with cellulite.
In a nutshell then, cellulite is found in areas between the
waist and the knees. It is believed that up to 90% of women
are affected to some degree by cellulite.
